COMS Front Loader – Structural and Payload Monitoring System

MachineLife installed COMS (Continuous Online Monitoring System) hardware on a L2350 super high lift front loader to better inform on the operator actions and operating conditions that were causing damage to the machine.

MachineLife installed Strain Gauge Units (SGU’s) on the lift arms, and a low-profile HMI in the operators cab to alert the operator instantaneously to damaging actions. Data from the COMS platform was integrated into the site’s data historian so reliability engineers and supervisors could compare long term data trends, and identify specific tasks causing damage to the machine.

After just a few weeks, MachineLife identified the primary damaging actions were corner loading of the bucket and overloading the bucket with unusually dense material.  This allowed the site’s operations department to better plan for loading heavy material and train the operators on better loading and handling methods.
