A shaft torque test measures the torque, oscillations, and frequencies within each drive shaft of a system. Shaft torque tests can measure the individual shaft and total system response on the swing, drag, hoist, and propel systems. Shaft torque tests are used on draglines and other types of mining machinery.
The torque test provides answers to the following questions:
- What is the maximum torque within the system?
- What is the torque per action or phase in the system?
- What are the % torsional oscillations relative to the mean torque?
- Is there infighting or chatter between motors, gearing, or motor-generator (MG) loops in the control system?
- Which motors and loops have infighting?
- Will cross loop resistors reduce the torsional oscillations within the control loops?
- What resistance optimizes the motor performance and reduces gear stresses?
- What is the component life reduction from the torscional oscillations?
- What is the life improvement after installing and optimizing the cross loop resistance?
