A rail spall test is one of three standard services utilized to provide a complete roller circle assessment (center of gravity test + roller load test + rail spall test):
A rail spall test provides answers to the following questions:
- What rails are experiencing spalling?
- What diameter, depth, and location?
- Are the rollers mistracking or thrusting?
- Do rail joint stack height issues exist?
- What rail joints and what height difference?
- Is there rail distortion or wear hardening?
- Is there unusual wear occuring on these components?
- Is there a radial taper misalignment between the rollers and rails?
- How long can we operate on this rail set?
