A synthetic fiber boom suspension pendant manufacturer needed real world data to compare the structural benefits of the synthetic fiber pendants to traditional metal wire rope pendants. MachineLife installed COMS (Continuous Online Monitoring System) hardware on a BE495 Rope Shovel to monitor and compare the stresses and harmonic frequencies between both pendant sets.
The COMS system measured real-time stresses and aggregated data cycle by cycle to compare loading and resonance in the pendants and structural stresses and fatigue in the boom and backlegs.
MachineLife’s unique real-time stress and fatigue algorithms were used in conjunction with traditional statistical analysis methods to compile a Whitepaper documenting the study and findings.
