Many machines have antiquated boarding systems for their machinery, making them unreliable, dangerous, or difficult to traverse. MachineLife designed a new stair system for a dragline, enabling workers to move from the ground to the main machinery deck, without temporary ladders or ad-hoc stairways.
The client requested a stairway design that would lift up, clear of the ground when not in use, and would safely lower down when needed. Additional stairway system requirements included the need to:
- Operate during power outages
- Be controlled from the ground, machine deck, and operators cab
- Use safety features so the machine could not move while the stairs were deployed
- Be installed during one shift
- Operate on the existing compressed air supply
- Be modular and possible to install on multiple machine types
